Some people maintain that the great empires became great through war.
This is not true. War never builds; it destroys and spreads hate. It destroys
the lives of men, their houses, their monuments and their cities, in addition
to nature, landscapes and beauty. The great civilisations developed through
trade, culture, peaceful coexistence, and their rulers’ vision. Throughout
history, war has always been a step backwards. The battlefield ruins we see are
evidence of this, as are the walls, the towers, the trenches and the cemeteries.
