Visual storytelling workshop: “telling a story through images”.

The workshop is organized by the Gray 18 percent Association in collaboration and with the teaching of Alfredo Macchi, Mediaset journalist and photographer, sent all over the world to war zones. The event aims to analyze the most appropriate approach and method to be able to tell a story through images. The meeting is aimed at those who, already in possession of a technical background in basic photography, want to learn the visual storytelling technique to give greater strength to their photographs in order to build a story.

Saturday morning will be dedicated to the theoretical part in which the best tools for the realization of the shots will be studied, while in the early afternoon of the same day we will go outside to put into practice what was discussed. Sunday will also be divided into two parts: in the morning each of the participants will select the photographs in the classroom, with the help of the teacher, and in the afternoon the chosen photographs will then be presented in turn by the participants: there are only 12 places available!

WHERE and WHEN

The workshop will be held at C within Mocobo in via Pellegrino Matteucci 98 in Rome. The Centro Mocobo is easily reachable by underground, with Line B, “Piramide” stop. The appointment is for Saturday 19 November at 10.00

HOW IT IS STRUCTURED

Saturday 19th November 2016 :

  • 10.00 – 13.00 theoretical lesson in the classroom
  • 14.00 – 17.00 practical outing with the teacher

Sunday 20 November 2016 :

  • 10.00 – 13.00 selection of images with the help of the teacher
  • 14.00 – 17.00 presentation of your work

Topics covered:

What is storytelling . The fundamental elements of a narrative: from ancient fairy tales to advertising. How to keep the pace and attention. How to tell a story with pictures. How photographs can arouse emotions and resonance in the audience.

What makes a photographic story successful? What are the mistakes to avoid? The choice when shooting, in the editing and selection phase.

THE TEACHER

The workshop teacher, supported by the photographers of the Grigio18% Association, will be Alfredo Macchi </ strong> journalist and photographer sent by Mediaset, winner of numerous prizes and awards including first prize category at the International Photograpy Awards 2015 with the photographic book War Landscape .

CONVENIENCE

The cost of the workshop is 95 euros. The workshop is reserved for members of the Grigio18% association, but if you are not yet a member of the association, don’t worry: the 2016 membership costs only 25 euros. it is valid for the whole of 2016, and allows you to participate in all the activities organized for members (monthly photographic exits, photographic aperitifs, meetings with photographers, etc.) which do not involve additional costs! An excellent opportunity to fuel your passion for photography!

Description of the workshop:

The workshop will last for 2 days. It is divided into 3 parts: a first theoretical part, a second practical part of shooting outdoors (in Rome) and a third practice of reviewing the shots and presenting them.

The workshop will be reserved for 12 participants . We remind those who are not a member of the Grigio18% Association for 2016, that in order to participate in the workshop they must necessarily register with the Association (paying the 2016 fee set at 25 euros).
